If someone joined Uber in early 2016 as a senior SWE, how much stock money would they make? I think due to taxation and the current price point, they are really at a loss now. But curious how much they can get from stocks.
At early 2016, Uber was offering 500-1M for senior SWEs at $40/share. You can do the math.
When is the income taxed for engineers with rsu? And does the company withhold the rsu when vesting and sell at ipo time?
Shit google you are very lost
I honestly don't know.. can you point me to the right information
These must be options so everyone's math is going to be different. Grant of a stock option is not a taxable event but the exercise of the said option is. Depending on when/how many you exercise, and the increase in valuation between these events, you might also incur AMT. Stock options are fun :) it gave me enough headache that I thought it better to pay someone $1500 / year to sort this shit out and do my taxes.
They made about $500k
This looks way too much with my math.
Well then you’ll need to check your math. Unless my brokerage account is showing the wrong numbers to me :)
Hired early 2016 as an SDE2, total grant over four years was like 6000 shares. Preferred price at the time was $48. Early 2015 would be a totally different story.
Mid 2015 was 38/share
So does everyone who joined after 2016 get less $ than what you were expecting based on your offer grant RSU? if the offer was made at $33 and now it's $29
Yes, but for most the offer was made at the preferred price of $48
2016 offers were all RSUs made at $48/share. Due to tax at IPO price and $27 current price, made less than $200k cash. Many in same boat with 50-70% less than expectation.
What was your level?
Still good amount of $$
Less than you don't worry!
