How strict is “We do not provide visa sponsorship”

Have a few MA companies that im interested in interviewing at, but job posting says the company do not provide visa sponsorship. Why do they not want to? Will you still apply for the position if u require H1B but is currently on OPT

Yeah it’s strict, otherwise they wouldn’t mention it in the advert. If you apply without the right to work then you fail basic comprehension and will only succeed in annoying the company.

What they mean, no budget allocated for attorney fees. Or require security clearance.

I would negotiate before the interview. If it’s a hard no, there is no point wasting time

Below are few possible scenarios 1. Team/Org for which the posting is has filled their quota/budget of number of Immigrants they can take for the year. They need to keep a balance. 2. Visa sponsorship is not available for this Engineering role, but is available for some other Role. One such example is SRE/Data Engineer which are new titles, but the company has not figure out how they map to old titles, which map to SOC code. 3. Require security or highly sensitive clearance Above is based on experience and interaction, I had. What you could do is, if possible work with recruiter to see if they feel comfortable to showcase your resume for other positions for which work visa is available. Once at the job, if you still are excited and want to transition to other Team, it is much easier conversation. Good luck.

Has anyone without a visa successfully landed a job when the ad specifically said they won’t sponsor?

Do you currently have one? If so, negotiate for transfer of visa

Visa sponsorship is like sex. If they haven't done it before, they won't get it right the first time.

If they put it in the posting its pretty much a straight no. They are confident they can fill the position with someone who does not need a visa.

Please dont apply if you dont have valid work authorization. The HR person wont select you. Source - I am a hiring manager, and when i say - no Visa, it means i have done my due-diligence and the company machinery has told me to not accept visa candidates.
