How strict is ur company/team’s working hour policy?

My current company has a core hour of 10-4 and everybody is expected to arrive by 10 or they will get nagged by managers. Since I was used to a more flexible schedule in my previous company, it’s getting quite difficult for me to adjust. What’s it like in other companies?

There is a decent consensus that the core hours count 10-4 with an hour or 2 for lunch

2 hour lunch??

No onsite lunch means you have to go out. Long walk plus lunch rush can easily add up to a 2 hour lunch

Sounds like ass-in-chair management to me; I'd find another job unless I was getting top dollar....the only exception is production support-type roles that need to be on-call. For SW dev roles it should be all about delivery, not the time of day you deliver.

Ops roles suck at Amazon, have to get in before 8

There is some expectation for us to be around at least for a while during daylight. And to try to show up for scheduled meetings. Overall, no one really cares, unless they are an incompetent ass. 🍆

Core Hours: 9-3. You are expected to be there during those hours, but no big deal if something comes up on occasion and you can't be.

No "core hours" or even any "hours" expectation here. You can come and go when you want as long as you get your work done. Some people on my team work from 8 to 4 or so, some work from 12 to 6. Personally I mostly work from around 10 to 5. Sometimes when I'm particularly depressed and want to avoid all human contact, I work from 8pm to 2am.

When do you schedule meetings? That’s basically what core hours mean...

No core hours. Some people have to go into the office but I most WFH and work 8AM - 4PM. I could do 10-5 or 10-6 even but I choose not to.

Pretty chill for me wfh most days otherwise turn it before 12 pm and get out by 5

Varies by team, no company-wide policy. Adjustment is normal when switching jobs, 10-4 is just 6 hours including lunch. You can do it.

Amazon Dude58 Jan 30, 2018

What is this working our policy that you speak of? Make all your meetings, either in person or on Chime. Get all your work done. What else is there?

Amazon Hooliganss Jan 30, 2018

Standup at 11, latest meeting is generally at 3. So 11 to 3?
