I work at a startup with a manager that doesn't value my health and well-being. I'm making plans to leave, and I need advice. I know I need to start hitting up leetcode, but I have no time because: -Work load is so huge I'm pulling all nighters every other day (weekends too) because my manager is terrible -My manager chooses the ticket time estimations, even though he has no knowledge of the code base. He chooses estimates based on what he feels, and I get to eat the time cost of underestimated tickets. There goes ticket estimate manipulation to give me more leetcode time -We have standup everyday, so choosing to leetcode over work will show very quickly the next day when I get nothing done -Every ticket that doesn't get finished in a 2-week sprint is an angry 1-on-1 with my manager -I have a lot of personal life responsibilities I can't escape I need about 5 months to pull together a 6 month emergency fund where I can comfortably change jobs. This amount is non-negotiable. I know my capabilities and need for recovery. My priorities are health, family, then career. I won't budge on this. This is the exact reason I'm aiming to leave my current company. My question to the blind community is how would you advise me to interview prep? If I get fired, I doubt I'll get severance. So far, the cleanest solution I see is to suck it up for the next 5 months when my job transition fund is ready, but if I can leave sooner, or find a way to prepare earlier, I'm all ears. Thanks to all for your time and input. YOE: 5 TC: 155 (because startup equity is Monopoly money) #leetcode
Prep for a few months with the time you have available and give a shot at interviews . Looks like even if move to another company (not your ideal one ) you will find more time to prep and leetcode
I doubt you could leetcode at office. This is only possible when nobody cares what you are doing at office or whether you deliver or not. My advice would be don’t think too much about issues. Focus on positive things. Be mindful. Work for 8 hrs as required each day. Having positivity tell people what you were able to do and explain nicely why you were able to do only that much. No cheating. After work go home and leetcode. I have seen that half hearted deeds give nothing but displeasure and that continues in the work in personal life too. So, do whatever is required at work without stretching yourself, and leetcode at home. I am in similar situation where I am supposed to sit at my desk all the time. And my monitors should show only project related stuffs. I take it as a challenge or hurdle and all these make me more resolute to achieve my goal which is to get into a better paying job. Good luck!
quit when ready and prep full time
