How to avoid feeling burned out?

At work, I've often run into the problem where I am working on a hard problem and my brain gets fried from working on it so long. Most of the time, when I get home, I feel totally burned out. Am I doomed to always feel this way? Or have you guys found ways to overcome it? #softwareengineer

Everyday should not feel like a hard problem that burns you out.

I usually take the following breaks during the day: 1) When I get in, I grab a hot mocha from the cafe. This gets me looking froward to mornings and also the double shot gives me a caffeine boost 2) I go to lunch around 11:30-12 with co-workers and this is a good break from work 3) Once between 2-4 I take a long walk to a further cafeteria and get a bite to eat. Sometimes I sit at the cafe and eat to think and recuperate 4) And some days if I feel like I go to the gym somewhere in the interval of 3-6 pm and a good sweat session and shower really helps get over nerves/frustration The above is possible because my workplace has all these amenities, I understand many places might not and it might be different! To take all these breaks I get in at 8:30 and leave work around 7:30 pm after dinner(we have free dinner at 7)

So in other words, work as little as possible everyday and you won't get burned out. Got it.

Breaks are very helpful.... Daniel Pink’s book “When” describes why. 9 min video summary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKCX0GDGUoU

You should find the easy way out of a hard problem

Get into a leas stress job/company. Taking a break is a short term solution.

Smoke weed. It helps. I'm serious, not trolling.
