I am currently individual contributor , working as senior sdet. good in java, qa processes, agile, building automation frameworks etc. Never lead any team, never managed any project independently. In next 1 to 2 years, I want to start trying for QA manager /quality engineering manager roles. My question is.. how should I prepare now . What should I focus on learning. I am b.tech from india. Should I do MS here in US. Should I do something else.. Any help is much appreciated... Tc 185k Yoe 9.5 #qualityassurance #automation #manager #engineering #swe #software
Few companies have QA managers. For example, at Uber there are no QA engineers, all testing is automated and done by regular software engineers. Companies that have dedicated QA usually embed it into the team and have them report to regular EMs. This is to say that you are moving in the wrong direction.
Varies from every company. Apple for example has engineering manager who are actually qa managers in test teams
Honestly, you are wasting your time. Question you should ask is, how to get out of Qa?
But I already have spend almost 10 years in this role. I am pretty good at it.. so, I was thinking instead of moving to development, why can't I work on growth in the same field.
You know, let's say I have to spend 100 hours of learning to move to development role. In the same effort, I can be qa manager. And I think qa manager is better position than sr developer in terms of money as well as position
