I see people from consulting background are generally good at this, and it makes me wonder there is ways to train yourself to do it. While climbing management ladder, it’s so critical to have a sponsor from high up. Building such relationships is essential. Any books suggested? YouTube video?

No other way than to introduce yourself, pretend you’re interested in what they’re doing and offer a way to help or offer information/ideas... this is why the “Hollywood shmooze” is so well known because that’s how you get gatekeepers to notice you. Watch Entourage and watch how Ari Gold kisses ass
Solve problems for them. Listen to the leaders who you are talking to, convince them your badass and solve problems. That'll put you in front of the next level of leaders. Rinse and repeat.
