Blind's FAQ explains the site is community-moderated, meaning posts get taken down automatically if they're flagged enough. They also have community guidelines (https://www.teamblind.com/community-guidelines) about what we should flag, which I didn't even know until now. I think we should talk about how the community moderation model is working, or rather not working. The really offensive stuff gets removed pretty fast, but I see a lot of borderline racist/sexist and just low effort posts. At the same time, some users get banned for political opinions even if they weren't disrespectful. This is hard to fix, but here's my idea: Flagging should be reserved for "this user needs to be banned asap" type cases. For example, this morning there was a user just posting racial slurs under random topics channels. I think we can all agree they needed to be banned. Flags should be reviewed by a human at Blind, and if someone does too many false flags, they should lose the ability to flag. There should be a softer mechanism for "this doesn't add value" cases. Something like the reddit downvote. This will inevitably be abused to express disagreement. Oh well. I've seen concern that having downvotes would create a conformist culture because people wouldn't want to lose likes/points on their profile. To avoid that problem, downvotes just shouldn't affect those metrics. Having downvotes accomplishes the following: • Low-scoring (say less than negative 10 points) posts can be hidden in the timeline by default. This reduces low-effort posts. • People don't feel the need to add low-effort comments just to express disagreement. • People don't feel the need to flag to express disagreement. • People can gauge community sentiment more accurately (instead of comparing the vote count of a comment with that of its top disagreeing reply) Thoughts?
People get offended too quickly. No way of solving that really
Apologize for your whiteness and we won't ask again until tomorrow
A bit complex. My tldr of the solution is just that blind needs to stop outright banning for trivial things like non offensive jokes.
Can confirm blind bans for conservative (non racist) posts
Flagged, took me time to read this post
Why not just scroll past and ignore comments or posts that you find distasteful?
Agree with OP, got banned in September, but I've never posted anything bannable. Cold-hearted maybe, but sometimes the cold hard truth should be delivered as-is and not sugarcoated to pander to everybody's sensibilities
You have too much time at your hand , use somewhere else
Just copy what Reddit does
Pretty simple just as in your workplace environment if your a Democrat be loud and proud. If your not pretend to be so you don’t get fired for not being inclusive... I don’t see the issue
Flagged for bad grammar and punctuation.
