How to get a larger severance?

I got laid off today. I joined the company a year ago, was super enthusiastic, was consistently bringing value, got promoted, and worked hard. When the lockdown started, all of the employees’ salaries got cut for 4 months. I lost 25% of the pay, since the company went into a “survival” mode. That’s despite the company continuing being profitable, getting millions in stimulus money, and continuing to hire new people. We were also required to come to the office, despite being in the middle of NYC. Many of my colleagues, as well as myself got Covid. I had it really bad! My morale went down, and I’ve been half-assing since November. Prior to getting laid off I was put on 4 weeks PIP. I feel that I did everything and beyond of what was asked of me. But the manager already made up his mind, and it was a game I couldn’t win. The company gave me two weeks of severance, and all my benefits ending at the end of the month. I signed the paper. But I have a week to retract it. Do I have a case to get a larger severance? And if so how should I go about it? #severance #layoff

Regardless, it is probably better to focus on getting a new job, than fighting over a little more severance.

If you still want to go all out on maximizing your severance, here is a good tutorial: https://youtu.be/jCperI2Azy8

NAL, but I’d hire a service to see if you can get that number to 2-3 months at least. The PM market is very competitive right now, so those two weeks may not cover your search timeline. For your next job, make sure to negotiate severance and exercise window for options before signing.

Sorry you’re experiencing this and hope you land somewhere better ASAP.

Thank you! I’m in the interview process with a few companies, and couple of them are in final stages. Plus I have a quarter mil in emergency and investments. So I should be fine. 🤞
