Hello folks! I have a profile very relevant to one of the roles at IBM research and I'm very interested in it. I'm fairly confident that I can get it if I can get an interview, which seems to be the hardest step with IBM. I applied online directly and I also got referral. Nothing seems to work. I interviewed with IBM (corporate) earlier through a recruiter I met at a conference, it did not work out last time because of visa issues and the recruiter doesn't respond to me anymore. What's the best way to reach out it hiring manager/recruiter of IBM research? Also, it you have interviewed with IBM before, how long did the whole process take you? Because mine was a terrible experience with interviews spanning over 3-4 months with IBM (including team matches) Any inputs/advice is highly appreciated. Thanks!
I don’t know where you are but IBM London don’t like sponsoring visas
Don't want to burst your bubble of hopes and dreams, but OP have you ever considered that they did pick up your application and thought you weren't good enough? Also the best way for research managers to find potential candidates is via conferences. Unless you know which conferences to attend, your chance is slim
We are currently in a hiring freeze through Q4. I’d say follow up after the new year.
To be able to join in 2020, shouldn't one be interviewing right now? Job posts do day that the start date is in 2020 but I assumed that they might be currently interviewing?
Some teams will interview now... some not. I personally tend to not interview until I actually have a green light to hire. Do you know what team the open position is for?
Agree with IBM666. There’s a big hiring freeze right now for most of Research. That combined with the holiday season means slow responses for everyone applying. If you’re hot in Quantum, you might have a chance, but otherwise wait until Q1 2020, there will be hiring in most Research orgs then.
Like till Jan or Feb?
I’d reach out to the manager of the group, acknowledge that it’s the end of the year, that you assume things are slow now, and ask to connect again in Jan... suburban declare your interest now

Email directly the appropriate IBM director in your relevant field. All their profiles are publicly facing on IBM’s website.
Wouldn't reaching out to director be an overkill? Wouldn't that annoy them? Considering I'm only applying for L1/L2 role
No, IBM research directors don’t manage large teams.
