So for the past 7 years I've been working at a comfy job but one where I didn't get to grow as much as I should have as a JAVA backed engineer. Have a MS Software Engineering degree but suck at technical interviews. Have been really demotivated to the point I just took a year off and just lived on severance and unemployment to get back some control of life but life has been disastrous for my family. Anyway, how do I get back into the market when I haven't really done any programming for the past year. What languages/frameworks should I focus on? I know I'm a JAVA guy for the past 7 years but my passion rests on ASP . Net. But I don't even know where to start.
first, it's Java, not JAVA. I'll send you my invoice for consultation fees.
It's not that difficult. Step 1 - leetcode Step 2 - some more leetcode Step 3 - congrats on your new job (this is a buyers market)
Considering you didn’t feel the need to code in the past year - why’re you assuming a career as a SWE is right for you? Explored something else?
I was in a similar boat. Was good at C++ for Windows but then realized that most desktop apps today are written with Electron :'(. You will struggle a lot when you make the switch but I still think it's worth it.
There is a lot of resources online, pluresight, LinkedIn learning, udacity
