I have seen people getting lots of interviews in here (Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook....) How are you guys getting it? Is the trick in resume or referral or ? Please help me with ideas to get call for interviews. I am QAE with 7.5 yoe, Automation testing using Selenium.
Hiring event?
Not local.
Once you worked for one of them it is easy to get interviews for the others (this is résumé) If this is your first time, win some competitions, publish papers or find referrals
Leetcode competitions and hackerrank? Are employers looking the result of these competitions?
No. They look for work experience. Keep your LinkedIn updated and as someone else suggested, keep applying using referrals and also be on the lookout for any hiring events in your area
referral
Get out of Cognizant first, and get into any reputable company (doesn't have to be FAANG). You should start seeing more reach outs on LinkedIn then.
Will you be able to suggest some companies I should look for(reputable companies). I am QAE with 7.5 yoe. Automation testing
You don't even need to be in a reputable company, as long as you have the right skills. Make sure your LinkedIn profile has the right keywords and skills that you see on the ads of the jobs that you want.
Buddy, I don't want to sound elitist, but the fact is even if you are cognizant's top performer you'd atleast be 30-35 iq points lower than the average faang employee.
I am going to try to reach the level of faang employees. Please suggest any ideas to shorten the path
Are you sure you want to? Most likely you are not cutout for it. Anyways, i'd suggest trying for a second tier company (such as Booking, but even that might be hard). Do lot of leetcoding and side projects. improve your portfolio, resume and your skills would improve. Also, less mastigiri with friends.
Lmao “mastigiri” 😂😂
I'd say getting a highly regarded online masters such as OMS CS will help if you want to transition roles from QAE to SWE. It will be hard, but if you're determined, you can do it.
Another option may be is to try for simpler roles at FANG/Non fang. Something like Application developer at Google or performance engineer at fb or something similar. Start working there and then see if you can internally transfer to SWE. Another problem that I see is your work ex in selenium. Lot of similar work has been outsourced to IT firms so the top companies don't need to hire for such roles. I would recommend if you can join some swe team at your company as well.
Thanks for your advice, I think it will work. But most often I see swe.positions posted in LinkedIn are for experienced. How to land a job at entry level.swe in faang
You can apply for those positions. Entry level are mostly marked as University Graduate, but those have restrictions. You can look for roles work 2-6 yrs of work ex. The recruiter will do the job of slotting you.
Relevant work experience is good start I would assume.
