How to get laid off and get severance?

I am fed up with my current company and ready to quit, but I would like to get some severance. I know of people who have been fired for performance in the past who got 4 months of salary, so that’s pretty good. The problem is that we are a small company and we don’t have a formal PIP process, it’s more like on a case by case basis. I am team lead of a project and I work from home full time. I already started doing nothing all day. I basically leetcode full time during working hours, and just attend the daily standup and other meetings to pretend I am working. surprisingly nobody has noticed yet in 3 weeks! How can I ensure I get that severance?

Entitled much? Why not start looking and actually get a different job? I can’t wait to see the advice you get.

Yeah I don’t care. The company did me very dirty a few times so they could literally fail and I’d be smiling.

That’s destructive negative energy that won’t get you anywhere. You need to get out ASAP. Focus on finding your next job which will be a full time job in itself

I would not do that. They may make or break your next reference for a job. Just quit in good terms always

Leetcode hard! Prepare well! You will make much more outside than that paltry severance package if you prove your worth. Quit on good faith!

It will take 6 months to a year. Maybe longer. The so called gravy train is a harder grind than work you love so prepared to be soul crushed.

Take a shit on your boss’ desk after work

Wow. There is so much wrong with your approach to life. Be a good person. Just find a job. Don't be a leech. Be grateful for whatever you've learned from this experience and move on.

They played with false promises of equity for an incredibly long time. They effectively tricked me. It’s partially my fault because I allowed them to trick me, but they share a massive responsibility as well, they exploited me with false promises. Why do I have to be a good person while they are allowed to be villains?

Micron muun Oct 31, 2019

Because two wrongs don't make a right. Because being a good person pays off in the long run. Because your reputation and integrity follow you. I'm not saying to let people trample you, but there are still good and bad ways to react. Trying to get revenge or be a leech won't pay off.

You're no better than your company (probably worse) if this is your approach to leaving.

Financial samurai wrote few articles and a book on negotiating your severance. It's a skill and many are afraid to do that. What can you really lose though?
