How to get more youtube subscribers ? Cracking the algorithm?

I just recently started a YouTube channel, and wanted to get more information about how the YouTube algorithm works. I have a couple of directions I can take my channel in terms of content, but I want my content to also allow me to eventually get more subscribers and maybe even earn some money. Since there are a lot of Google people here, I wanted to ask if anyone has comprehensive knowledge about what are the most important factors to get more subscribers, and get more money from a video. For example, from what I've researched from YouTube and other platforms it looks like how long your viewers are engaged in a video is more important than view count. I also read that where your viewers are located has a bigger impact than views as well. If you work for Facebook, Youtube, Instagram would really like to get some insight in how content is promoted on your platforms. Also, I heard that these algorithms also change all the time, how frequently do these changes happen and how do they impact creators? Anyone with some insight please chip in!

This is correct. Ales and brews are very popular with communities of home brewers and casual drinkers. You could probably capture a good audience through that niche interest

I believe their algorithm likes both frequent and consistent uploads, and I also heard they like longer videos, but I’m not entirely sure what they consider long vs short. I know that the magic length to enable in-line ads is 10 minutes so I think you should make them at least that long if possible. Other than that just use good keywords in your titles and description, and maybe the thumbnail as well

Do you want more subscribers or more comp? There's a difference. Your strategy could be to attract as many people from around the world if you want subscribers. If you want more comp, you will try to get subs from the countries that have higher ARPU since ads will be more expensive there. Make sure your video is long enough for ads, engagement definitely matters. If users are watching the ads (without leaving) just so they can see rest of your content, that's a good sign. Something that can completely change a channel in terms of subscribers is to create a video that goes viral and shows up higher in feed. Many people on YouTube scroll through their feeds looking for videos to watch, so the more often you appear on the feed, the more subs you'll get.

Make good videos that are engaging. Sound like you’re trying to game the system and monetize junk. They change the algorithm all the time to try to prevent this.

Here’s how the algorithm works: https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/research.google.com/en//pubs/archive/45530.pdf The tl;dr is that the #1 heuristic used to recommend videos to viewers is watch time. What this insinuates is that getting from 0 to 50,000 subscribers is a lot harder than getting from 50,000 to 1 million, because your videos won’t be recommended if people just aren’t watching them. My roommate is a YouTuber with over a million subscribers & can confirm this was the case for himself. Not super helpful but more helpful than kielbasa’s preachy rhetoric

If you’re close to LA, I recommend their workshops. They give you strategies on monetization and audience dev. One tactic is to partner with a similar YouTuber with a larger following. You appear on each other’s channel and cross promote. Also use key words in your title and description.
