She earned a BSc degree in computer science more than 10 years ago. She never worked after graduation because she moved with me to the US and wasn't eligible to work due to visa, then we had kids, etc. Now she is hoping to get a job. But it has been sooo long since she graduated. She wants to find a good program that can help her refresh her CS knowledge and help her rebuild coding skills. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any recommendations on how I can help my wife get ready for a tech job? Thanks
Would start with brushing up her programming and comp sc knowldge. Then various forms like Amazon etc offer code ninja like online competitions once you clear that you are guaranteed an interview. She can also start smalland not hope to get into FANG at first.
Could you name a few competitions as examples? I have no idea what you're talking about
Has she been coding since she graduated, maybe done some udemy/coursera/edx courses to keep her skills up or has she been focused on other things?
She did one coursera course 5 years ago on database systems. But that's all what she has done in the last 11 years
Does she still want to be a programmer/developer? Or does she just want to be in Tech? There are heaps of tech jobs that don't involve coding.
Dude, there are lots of resources. I would go with Udacity/Coursera for education, then Leetcode for interview prep.
Coding bootcamp is a good option for learning modern practices since she already had the theoretical background, plus many of them do job referral and interview prep.
But they are very expensive and their reviews are very mixed.
There are back to work programs that some companies run for people in her situation
Can you name some?
Leetcode very, very hard. Then for experience say she has been doing some freelance projects with offshore teams, and just invent projects, challenges etc that actually never existed. If she is extremely good at leetcoding and lying, she may even be able to land a faang job in the range 150-250k. This is how ridiculous the interview process is nowadays.
Alternative to lying would be taking down low hanging fruit on open source projects and just call yourself an active contributor to x, y, and z
Returnships are a great idea - here are some companies, mentioned in this article, that offer them (spoiler alert! Netflix, SAP, Walmart have them): https://hbr.org/2019/06/helping-stay-at-home-parents-reenter-the-workforce
Coding is like swimming. Once u learn it, u never really forget. Jump into the deep end and start again :) I'm sure she can get back at it fast enough. Although if she never worked, might have to start at junior level.
Coding is like swimming? Never heard of that one

Yes
So she can join any company as a tester, she will start with 60k and then later on she can earn more or else she can do some online course and apply for job
