I joined SAP fresh out of college and after 2 years as SWE took up a Product Manager role. In this role, I spend more time translating business requirements for engineers, talking to other teams for alignments and working with marketing for big events. Basically, it is an inward facing product management role than an outward facing. Though I interact with customers but it is mostly to source their feedback on current product and enhancements. I do not deal with the aspect of revenue, or evaluating price, or knowing the market to defining strategic problems. Need some guidance on following two concerns 1. Will the fact that my product is a legacy product reduce my employability in the market? 2. Will the non exposure to business side of things reduce my employability in the market? Want to hear from the community what they think is a dream product manager job? And what can I do if I want to have a shot at FAANG sometime in the future?
Were you working with ABAP as a SWE? Curious how the market is these days for that skill/also recalled seeing numerous posts on LinkedIn about waves of layoffs there. Although they still are a market leader seemed like SAP's been playing catch-up with players like Workday in the cloud space the past few years.
No I was not in ABAP. I have been in Cloud org throughout.
