Hi all.. what are various ways to move to US for a 35+ year old person with family from India. Few ways i know of: * Work at a company's non-US office for 1 year and then take L1 route. * Pursue higher education in US. In my case, L1 is a long shot and I cannot really leave job and family for education now. How does H1B visa thing works? Will any US company be willing to sponsor a person to come to US who is not working in their India office? Are their any timelines restrictions for that similar to what L1 visa has? Any other route? SDE2 35LPA 6 yrs at Amazon
If you already work at Amazon... why not try to transfer through them?
+1
Might not be working here for long. will be shown the exit door soon.
Climb the wall
scared of heights. have they found and closed all tunnels now?
Hey. I have one Q. How come u have 6 YoE at 35? Did u make a switch from something else to swe?
6 yrs at amazon. Prior exp was also as swe but in non-software companies. SWE did not do much in those companies (just basic coding and no scope system design etc.).
Then why would u discount that exp. It might not be great work. But it was still swe.
Go to Ecuador (If you are Indian you are Visa Free) then pass through the jungles of central america and mexico to reach the southern border. After that simply claim asylum, and live tension free. Thats the best route possible in the current scenario
It's not that simple buddy. US vets asylum seekers pretty well. Unless u r fleeing religious or political persecution, there's almost no chance u r gonna make it through the system. In fact even if u r , highly likely u will be sent back.
Looks like you've done your research well.. ha ha
OP, if I was in your shoes, I would prefer to find a better opportunity either in India or move to a immigration friendly country. India is booming and its easy to seek PR in other countries. I will not let my family go through that struggle.
I am in US right now, will be let go from the company soon and will have to move back as I am on L1 visa. Wanted suggestions from people who are in India and trying to move to US that is why framed the question like that. I kind of liked here in US so would like to come back ASAP. Canada is one other option, but, want to come back to US due to personal preferences.
Oh ok sorry to hear that. I am sure you know what is best for you. Good luck
Are you working in Amazon India office ?
Check o1 visa
Given you are already in the usa, schedule as many interviews as possible even for the smallest start ups. Then tell them you need h1
Many recruiters reach out to me on linkedin. But as soons as i tell them that i don't have H visa, I don't hear from them ever again.
Why do you want the US? Given the current GC queue, it will take you a life time to settle in the US. Why would you want to do that to yourself and put that kind of stress to your family? And if you have kids, they could potentially age out before getting GC. Don't do it.
No, as of now I don't have plans to settle here permanently. Just wanted to live here for few years. I am only a year old in US, wanted to go back at my own terms instead of letting go off by the company.
OP, you know it will very hard to leave the US once you start living here
