I was being offer a entry level position with 5 years of experience. I think it may because one round of the interview I did not do well. Anyone have recommendations on how to get to SDE2? Should I interview again with another team? Would a competing offer help? Appreciate your input.
Level is not negotiable at Amazon. You likely didn't do well in multiple interviews, not just one. SDE1 with your experience is an insult. Don't take it.
Wtf. L4 is for college grads and after 1 year they become L5. Don't take the offer
I am in Microsoft for almost 5 years. I am almost sure which interviewer did not like me. All other interview went well. I will definitely not take this offer.
What's your level in Microsoft and which team? For irrelevant experience, e.g. no distributed systems experience while joining AWS, may prompt loop to downlevel you with the promise of quicker growth if you do well. My wife joined AWS as L4 with ~7 years of experience, because she lacked distributed systems as well as design experience, made it to L5 in 1 year and now on path to L6 in a few years. If it's just bad interviews however, try after more prep. Also not all new grads make it to L5 in just 1 year. It takes 2-3 years for what I have seen for avg guys and may be 3-4 years for worst cases.
I worked in Azure and all my experience are building distributed web services. The team I interviewed is also doing similar things. You could argue I am using C# and the team is using Java.....
The hiring manager want to put me in SDE2 band but it was not his call. He believe I should be that level and think my level will be corrected after joining.
Are you sure it’s entry level? I doubt we would make offer for L4 with 5 yrs exp As mentioned above, level is non negotiable The hiring manager and recruiting have zero say on this
Don’t take anything below L5. Play hardball and decline. They will get back to you.
The offered me the same, I have 5 yrs experience and went back to graduate school for my second master. The said they don't usually offer L5 to college grad. WTF.
You need to be outside 6m from graduation to avoid university recruiting
It’s not always technical. The LPs influences the leveling a lot.
Which company were you at in that five years? It does not seem right to me. And It does not hurt for asking though
