Hello fellow blinders, I want to move to a web tech. company like Amazon, Apple (their web back end), LinkedIn, Microsoft (Azure), Adobe, FB and google. I have been in R&D EDA coding in C++ for a long time abt 6 years, which is mostly very limited exposure to web back end. Although, I am quite well versed with the technologies in the Web space such as distributed systems , cloud computing and machine learning (took courses on udemy and coursera and also did a few projects). I am a pretty good coder and know Java and Python. I can solve leetcode well. #leetcode The problem is that none of the recruiters hit me up on LinkedIn and dont respond when I contact them. One of them responded saying that my profile doesnt match their requirement after checking with the hiring manager. I am trying to pivot with my CS skills and whatever I have learnt about web systems in the past year. Can any blinders help? Or give advice on how to go about this thing? I need tips on how to land interviews. Appreciate all your responses.
Get reference, apply, clear interview, and negotiate comp. No shortcut.
First I would suggest learning a language like Rust, Go and Web Assembly, a lot of companies are looking to rewrite a lot of C++ code and web assembly allows for interoperability in browsers which is hot right now. Second, target a smaller or midsize company that is willing to extend you an offer so you can learn the skills you need for a role and then target larger companies when you are confident you know what you are doing. Third, sign up for AWS, GCP and Azure and start building stuff now. They each have a free tier or low cost tier and allow you to create your own cloud services and apps.
Target smaller company first and put in 18 months and a couple solid projects. Best transition is to prove it.
