Don't have anything to do but obviously don't want to tell that to anyone since they'd assign me more work. I'm estimating that I've been putting in a solid 20 minutes a day for the past three weeks. Breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, walks and talks on YouTube keep me busy, but I really want to read a book. Any tips on reading a book while making it seem like I'm staring at the screen (and grunting)? Just load an ebook? Other slacking tips? TC: 270 but it's enough for a simple guy like me
I like to work with two big screens and the laptop. In the big screens i have the terminal and the text editor. And in the laptop i have a book. It works great.
Reddit. Leet code
Somewhat boring to spend too much time on Reddit - I want to ingest ideas that don't fit in a paragraph - hence my love for books
What's stopping you from having an ebook open on one of your desktop monitors? I don't think anyone would really object esp at Google
Your employer will figure this out and you could lose your job - and damage your reputation. That you don’t have enough work to do is a management error on their part in the near term. But in the medium to long term, it will be blamed on you. Don’t make their mistake your problem
How long do you think this will last? Typically this is a sign that the group won't last long as they don't seem to have enough work for everyone. use the time to network with other teams, Leetcode. If you don't want any of that, may be mine some bitcoins by hand...
I think you're right. I'll look into transferring
Training books on vaguely job related topics is almost always accepted use of downtime. And not really something that attracts attention from people or hr wandering by virtually or physically
Genuinely curious: what do you talk about come performance review time, if you have little to no real projects and are averaging 20 mins/day?
This was only the past 3 weeks. I'm expecting an exceeds expectations rating though.
TC without yoe isn't very helpful!
Take contract work to do in office time, or start a startup (in wife's name of course)
