Been here for 7 months, as lvl 60. Dont see promotion in 1.5 years(average performance). Boring work depresses me as I'm not getting learning, promotion out of it.(making excel reports all day fml) Manager has no good work lined up. All mostly PM stuff and I act as support Should I try internal transfer. I can learn more and maybe promote faster on new team? Azure sounds interesting. Or staying will get promoted faster? Or stay, stop trying, coast along until I get IR. but interview externally
Been there in a same position before. Initially I looked at it like an opportunity and tried to come up with suggestions to Automate/find alternatives and discussed it with SDM/SDE3. I got the opportunity to work on one such project and received Engineering Excellence award for that. However, couple of months later I realized that it's a saturation level in current team and it's impacting my growth. Hence I switched internally. So my suggestion is, try out few possibilities, as these are also Engineering problems that need to be solved. You can transfer team anytime anyway. Regarding promotion, "Earning Trust" with your Manager and your current team is the fastest way of getting promoted, imo.
Sounds like your team had good projects to do still. I'm talking w manager but they all are just as boring
