My mistake for giving reviews that are constructively critical
just started working at a bigger company and this is helpful, will prob keep this in mind. Would be curious to know what other blinders have to add / detract from this advice.
Mostly true. What this article didn't encapsulate is that in some situations, no matter what you do you may never get promoted and likely get PIP'd instead.
What kind of situations?

+1, except importance of peer reviews depends on level (and not everyone wants to give honest feedback directly)
So you'd agree about the schmoozing up to peer managers part? Also do manager really not know what you're up to? (In term do achievements I mean)
Word can travel around the org very quickly, so your reputation matters. Do you consider "demonstrating" impact to be an achievement?
