See title. Does it open doors that non-faang tech wouldn’t? And how much does yoe within Amazon effect the value?
Definitely looks better than Expedia. ;)
Ouch.
Yep, great for interviewing.
I’d say it has pretty significant value. I was at Amazon before Groupon and have had multiple interviews where the interviewer chose to focus on my Amazon experience rather than my Groupon experience.
If the door does not open, use fire blast! I mean you're Charizard...
Not much in comparison to being able to solve trivial coding challenges on a whiteboard.
Amazon has the lowest hiring bar I’ve seen for any tech company (ie friends have gotten in I wouldn’t even consider refer to uber), but to make up for it they fire low-performers fast. For someone I’m interviewing I want to ensure they’re not one of the masses that came in through an easy interview loop and did support level work for whole time. Signals I look for are surviving there for multiple years, being promoted to senior in that time, and working with various teams. Amazon alone on your resume is a weak signal for me, unless you meet the above, I assume you’re here interviewing because of a pip. And no, Nobody wants amazon’s deadweight.
Funny, I did loops with both Uber and Amazon and got offers from both for Senior/5a. I found Uber to have the weaker engineering team. While both are team specific interview so this would be a single data point and not generic to either company. I chose Amazon due to better location, comp was similar and felt less like a gamble since huge IPOs rarely go well (snap, Lyft,FB )
Uber 5a is not equivalent to amazon’s senior, 5b is
Of course. Here’s some perspective - I’ve gotten L7 interviews through cold applications at every FAANG and top startup based on my amazon experience alone. Obviously the name carries a lot of weight but also I think other employers respect the fact that those who last here have track records of delivering some pretty big things.
Every big successful company looks good on your resume
