Lease ending soon. Looking for a bigger place to move to. Very interested in Bayview but heard negative comments from an Uber driver (not safe, low income neighbourhood, windy, etc). Anyone lived or living there? What do you think?
Move there if you wanna get shot. But during the daytime it’s less likely.
Are you kidding?
It isn’t that bad, but there are no grocery stores. There is a lot of riff-raff from the projects nearby, so the area can be shady. I suggest making friends with the neighbors if you want to live there.
If you have a child, you’ll get into the best schools in SF if you live in Bayview. That’s the only plus
How come?
Because school assignments are done by lottery and the bad neighborhoods get a preference rating in the lottery. That’s why everyone in Pac Heights and Noe Valley have to send their kids to private school—you can’t get into any good public schools. It’s a really crappy system.
I went there during the day about 2 years ago.. it was pretty bad.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayview-Hunters_Point,_San_Francisco Plenty of information about the area. Specifically the section on Marginalization.
I live there. it looks and feels like a ghetto, unattended kids playing on the road, people park everywhere and ignore traffic laws, and occasional screams from upstairs followed by a police visit. However, things are not as they seem. I checked actual violent crime statistics, and discounted domestic crime, and found that Bayview is much safer than SoMa which is considered a cool hip area, not to mention downtown (financial district) which becomes a shooting range at night and is the worst place in the Bay area. Also, Bayview is drivable. being in a car avoids most threats. just drive carefully and don't expect others to obey stop signs.
You will get murdered.
Shithole
Very dangerous
