New grad, received a product specialist interview. The position is located in Provo, UT. I did some basic research, but wanted to know more about what employees/others thoughts are for the company. Seems tech forward, and also continuously improving. Thanks in advance :) 1. Is it a good place to start your career at? 2. What is the realistic compensation for this position? I'm currently looking online (i.e glassdoor). 3. How's living in Utah? (Been living NYC area my whole life)
I started here out of college. It's been good for me. WLB is excellent. Comp is good for the area. Definitely won't beat Seattle or SF, but you can do a whole lot with your money here. Most engineers own homes. I plan to stay in the area for the long term. I'm not sure what new grad TC is, but I would guess right around 100k. Like I said, that gets you a whole lot out in the area.
According to online sources it seems likes the salary they give for this position is equivalent to 70-100k salary in NYC. How's the lifestyle there? Public transportation any good?
@kwaltreks, for Quni in Provo? New grad TC is $100k for SWEs in Seattle... Provo Product Specialists are like $45k... Lifestyle is dependent on what you are into. Love the outdoors? Youāll be set. Like the city life? Donāt get your hopes up. Public transportation isnāt great by any means but Qualtrics will give you a commuter card if you want to take the train + vanpool to/from work.
If you donāt have another offer, I think Qualtrics is a good company to start our of college. If you do have another good tech offer, Iād highly consider it. Q has plenty of upside and lots of hand on learning but honestly our company is pretty disorganized with a lot of inexperienced (or Qualtrics is their only job ever and are now management after growing up in a start up) and youāll find well intentioned people but poor managers from the perspective of developing you. Though depending on what you want, Q hires a lot of young people and youāll likely make a lot of friends and enjoy yourself if you want a more laid back but happy few years out of school
Iāve worked at tech-driven and customer/product-driven companies. Qualtrics is more sales/marketing-driven than anyplace Iāve been, and itās weird, tbh. Meeting hygiene is terrible, product planning is kind of a mess, I donāt really trust the leadership, and NPS is a deeply flawed metric. Itās a relaxed and fun place, as above, but honestly I donāt think itāll give you a great foundation in best practice and process.
From a tech point of view, I second all of that. But since you will be outside the core tech positions, these things may not bother you as much. Also NYC to Provo is going to be quite the culture shock. If you can get an onsite interview, I'd take it and seriously think about whether that's a place you want to live. SLC will be closer to what you're used to but still very different.
For product specialists I believe the TC starts at something like 45k. They only want you to be a product specialist for 1-2 years tho so depending on how much you hustle you can move into another role.
1. Great company to work for. They focus on employee experience so go above and beyond to make it good. 2. Not sure as I donāt work in that department. 3. If you love the outdoors, Utah is a great place to live. Probably a big culture shock for someone coming from New York but people are some of the nicest Iāve ever met.
Yeah I think most people move up from Quni to another department within a year. A guy on my team did that and heās a QE now. SWE TC is one of the best in the area, just around 100k this year. No stock options anymore though. Great culture and great coworkers.
Depends on who you ask on culture. I live in Salt Lake and commute and could never live in Provo. Mostly everyone is married, company events are mostly built around bringing family into the office. As a women with no kids Iām not a fan of the culture. If you ask a man with a wife and kids which is the majority of who works in Provo they will tell you the culture is great. People are nice, lots of opportunity, and Utah is beautiful and amazing for outdoor activities so I deal with the shortcomings on culture.
The Seattle office is majority single/no kids with very little to no family focus if you have an option to transfer.
Utah will be a rough cultural change from NYC. Very low diversity, much smaller city, different weather. Great skiing nearby. Canāt speak to Qualtrics internally but their survey product is the market leader.
Yeah I just saw a video about the SAPxQualtrics on the company campus. Really low diversity. :o
