Currently working in Compliance at Wells Fargo supporting consumer credit card products. I have 10 YOE and current base+bonus is ~$140k, although I’m very interested in the culture as well. I’ve been happy with the work/life balance at WF, and have heard Goldman has a culture of working very long hours to get ahead, though not sure if that would be as prevelent in compliance?
60 hours+ a week is normal everywhere at GS with the exception of some tech teams assuming you come in as a VP your TC will be much higher than 140k, so theres that
Thanks for that. One position I’m eyeing has a listed level of “Vice President/Executive Director.” Not sure exactly what that translates to.
@PAUL ALLEN - Do you know if 60+ hrs/week apply to MARCUS tech teams?
Stay clear of Goldman Sachs
Come to bofa ;D
Lol, good one. Don't.
Ha! It seems like half my coworkers at WF have come from BofA
Work remotely out of Southern California. Hard gig to complain about, just starting to get curious about what my TC potential may be elsewhere.
I moved to GS from central California several years ago( tech role). GS is a great company to work for. It will be great on your resume and future career. The exposure in your field and to outside world is huge. It comes at the cost of working more hours. Also account for commute hours. If you like to live in suburbs, then account for at least 1 hour each way commute. ( I am assuming you ‘ll work in jersey city office and live in a good school neighborhood like Ridgewood, Chatham etc) Also account for cost of living difference. You need at least 25-30 percent raise just to break even with the increase in cost of living.

Tipping culture is really getting out of control! Waiter gave me ‘a look’ because I tipped her 10% for ‘BAD service!’
Is it for tech?
Not for tech. Would be supporting business teams in compliance and risk mitigation with consumer protection laws.
If you are not happy with WLB in WF ( but you said you are ), you can join GS as there will not be any WLB too but you can get decent bump but trust me its not worth it.
