I pulled data from various sources and set some criteria to remove outliers with the goal of determining the L4 - L6 pay bands for recent hires. Folks who have been hired several years back may enjoy a TC which is higher due to stock appreciation, however, the focus of this data is on the last 2 years and most likely the bands for any incoming L4 - L6 SDE. Happy to be wrong, please help improve the data if you don't agree. I would say that the below data is accurate for 90%+ accurate and would be the TC for any INCOMING OFFER at Amazon in the SF Bay Area. Location: SF Bay Area (could apply to other locations, ie Seattle) Data: TC offer from Amazon for incoming SDE L4 SDE TC: Ceiling at 160k at the upper end of the band L5 SDE TC: Varies from 150 - 200k L6 SDE TC: Varies from 180k - 250k *TC = Total Compensation (Base Salary + Sign On Bonus + RSUs) At Amazon, RSU is: Year1: 5% Year2: 15% Year3: 40% Year4: 40% Sign on Bonus is over 2 years to compensate for the low RSU %.
Then what’s the true range?
Far off for Bay Area. L5 top of target range is 250k. Bottom of range is around 175-180k as I recall. L4 top of range is around 170k. L6 bottom range is around 260-270k. Band goes up to mid-to-high 3s.
How high in 3’s for L6 SDE ?
Appreciate the effort but L6 is too low by 20-50% dependent on tech vs. non-tech role and interview performance.
Did you mean Microsoft salary bands?
All the numbers cited here area not close. If you want to know, ask a recruiter, they have to tell you.
During negotiation?
Yes
Hahah those numbers are so off
These are realistic number.. way better than some blind folks who claims salary of > 200k with just 3-4 years of exp.
L5 and L6 are low
Too low. I’m an L5 non tech and my TC is 250K (if i use the stock price when i joined three yrs ago, way more if i use the stock price of today).
Sorry, these are not even close. Too low.
