I work for Cisco,San Jose joined from May 2018(8 months) as a g62 after graduation, even if I have 4 years if experience in India with the same skills(cloud and virtualization). But caught in the recent layoffs in November mid which forced me to switch team within Cisco with same grade. My total comp is only my base 130k. Now when should I ask for stocks or g8 position. My other friends got directly g8 position who had some shitty work experience in India. I have the potential to crack interviews of normal companies, but aiming for big4. Also most importantly I am waiting for filing of my H1B(right now on opt). So need to wait for some month for the visa thing to get settled up. What should I tell to my manager to get a total comp to at least 150k by this March in my one o one. He is saying I need to prove my skills. What I did not tell him: why you selected me to do g62 job and it was not my fault that I got laid off from other team and joined the new team recent. What should I do guys? I have my best friends work in companies who gives total comp as 160 average?
I have noticed Indiaās work experience doesnāt get counted here... even I had 3 years of it and never got counted. I would say prep for getting into a better company until your H1b is done this year and then jump if you want to.
Yes, it doesn't count
You are getting exploited and by staying in that company you are letting them do that
Try to move on when your Visa is figured out. Cisco has lot of politics and not an ideal work environment from what I understand. I had a close family member working there until an year ago.
You're only getting underpaid if someone will offer you more money.
I mean underpaid wrt what the average comp. in the market.
Complain about it on blind.
No use, I have seen it
I kept telling my boss that I was underpaid compared to the market and got a 25% raise bringing me to 200k with 3 yoe. If I hadn't gotten that raise, I would have been on my way out. You should do the same
Loooool 200k 3 yoe is definitely not market price.
All cash in NYC I feel it's not too bad tbh
Just go job hunting with competitive companies and figure out your optimal pay. There is little reason to negotiate or reason with your current boss.
