Many people will die just to get a foot into FAANG companies, this is exactly what I thought, to work in the first-tier corporation will be prestigious, that is why I applied. I completed usual prescreening, online coding test, phone interview and was invited for 5 hours interview on site, after which I had to take 100 grams of whiskey in the local pub, as 5 hours is too exhausting. :-) Anyway, 5-hour interview went pretty well and week after I got an offer. Wo-oo-ow! Cool! But I quickly realized that base salary is 10K less than my current base salary and TC is roughly the same. I had to mention, the city where I live is not in the Bay Area. Not Seattle. And not even in the USA, not in North America, but it's also NOT a third world country. My city is constantly making its position in the top 10 list of the best cities of the world. Compensation will be fewer what coworkers will earn in Bay Area or Seattle, basically I understand that, and I don't mind - Bay Area is more expensive, but at least Amazon need to match my current one. So, I started negotiation process. They gave me additional 5K (are you guys kidding me?!), still not matching the base salary. Total compensation will be approximately the same figure what I currently make, I have currently base salary + pension plan + bonus. What make FAANG companies great to work? Interesting innovations, name on resume, compensation. Well, I have 15+ years of experience, I have also big names on my resume, experience with trendy technologies, plus even one American technology magazine approached to me to write an article for them about identity and access management product, because of our earlier adoption, and getting less what I have in Amazon?!?! Are you guys in Amazon some sort of snobs or what if you see non-English, but European candidate name? Or are you using frugality incorrectly towards to your own employees? Wonder if Bezos check its own management guys for their leadership principles, in fact he eventually needs to do. I’m not that desperate. Nope, of course I'm not going to accept the offer. At least 15% higher for total compensation AND (not or!) at least match my base. So, I lost an interest. Plus, it is not clear are they going to vest additional stocks after my initial RSU vested after 3 years? I considered this as a risk, you never know how well things goes for you at new place. And it is better to have what you guaranteed to have such as base salary, rather to rely on RSUs which can or cannot be awarded after 3 years (this is exactly what says in contract) Yes, you can tell that I need to have very good performance. In fact, I do perform. And I will for sure perform in Amazon, as it is quite natural to perform very good for higher compensation. All I believe that the starting point (the base salary) must be the same, I don't want to take any risks, because there will be always some portion of the risk when you change the companies. Just wondering if anyone had similar experience with FAANG companies?
👍
Experience outside the US is not very valuable compared to experience inside the US. Also, granting an economic immigrant the opportunity to move to the US is big leverage in negotiation. If you actually want a good package you will need multiple simultaneous offers within the US, and use them as leverage in negotiation.
>>Also, granting an economic immigrant the opportunity to move to the US is big leverage in negotiation. Umm, not really. And no plans. Kids are in top schools, low crime, nice area, almost free medicine, what else you need? May be only good FAANG name on resume. :-) Just joking.
I didn’t mean you personally, I meant objectively. Objectively it is huge leverage, and the primary factor for your low offer. You can be delusional all you want, but the facts are the facts.
Isn't the bureocracy of Amadeus killing you slowly?
Seriously want my answer? I've been working in many companies for my last 15+ YOE, and Amadeus have no any difference to any of them in terms of bureaucracy. They are all the same.
just walk away if you think they're being disrespectful I think people walk away from G for that reason all the time now
15 yoe if you're not getting L6 (SDE3) offer then there's something. L6 offer can easily break 300k USD. I guess you got down leveled to L5.
I got downlevelled and the Tc jump was too less to join
“too less” you must be Indian
Yep lmao
Amazon has the lowest bar among the FAANGs.. they are a hire fast fire fast company
Not my experience as I turned down about 30 senior engineer candidates from Microsoft last year
@Amazon BfIO28 I was wondering, if you tell about "fast hire fast fire" statement how things are going there? Is it the case? Or it is wrong? What is the average tenure in AWS? Seriously no offense, just curiosity. My opinion because Amazon is large and have diversity in it's business (online retail plus AWS) warehouse workers of course complain a lot. What about tech people?
Wtf is a 100 grams of whiskey?
Finally someone got the joke. 100ml = 0.25 pint. But I liked your attitude!
Did you get LC hard?
In Spain?
I'd guess France
So would I
