I failed two first interviews at Google for policy-based non technical positions. My recruiter was sympathetic. She said: “You were borderline in basic communication. But strong in experience.” I am crushed. I fear I will probably not get a call back. But Im also looking for help. From what it sounds like, I could’ve framed my responses better in the interview. Would anyone here be kind enough to share any online resources, specific YouTube videos that I can view? Id love to develop and practice core responses to questions that might come up in an interview. Or connect with me off-Blind, and help me prepare for such situations. Im 40M. POC. If you’re wondering why I need to practice some of this: I have a history of working overseas in conflict zones and have PTSD. Sometimes it makes me stutter and I lose my train of thought. I am trying everything I can but I feel this interview bit is beyond my expertise.
Keep your head up! This isn’t the final job interview and it won’t be the last! Google is only one place that would be lucky to have ur talents! Keep trying and practicing, use this google interview as a stepping stone to your next position!
What's your background like? And would you be interested in positions that require less communication?
I have a creative background, so I worked with policy and content creation. Super flexible about any roles, and Im certainly not limited to Google. I can DM more details if you prefer.
Google take only 0.2% of applications. So don’t beat yourself up for not getting a job there.
Google is not the end all be all. Keep your head up.
Aren't you already in Google
What is it with these recruiters telling you how you did? Mine flat out said they were unable to share feedback about the interviews, at any stage throughout the process. I'm waiting on HC now... Sorry to hear you didn't make it. Try again!
I actually reached out to both the recruiters requesting if there was any specific feedback they are able to share with me. Thanks, I will keep trying.
The conversation on stammering due to PTSD is beyond the scope of Blind. It is a symptom of much more than its physical manifestation. I am sending you a DM. But also for the benefit of everyone here - a good way to work on this is to repeat after listening to newscasts. Stand in front of the mirror. You got this!
