I feel like every decision I have made has been the wrong one

2d 50 Comments

I am feeling pretty bad about the way things have turned out for me. I feel like every major decision I made has led me to a worse place. Things like what university I went to, what I majored in, people that I dated, jobs that I took (and stayed too long in)...and now it's too late to change that trajectory. Anyone else ever feel like this?

I recently moved out of Amazon for a small pay bump and better WLB. Now Amazon increased compensation significantly and my new companies stock is on the floor. I daily feel what I mistake I have made. Now I am making even less than what I was making at Amazon before switch.

You can boomerang. Also Amazon did not raise pay for engineers they simply increased the cap and whatever pay adjustment is not set until 2023. You missed out on nothing.

I'm also in the same boat. Made pretty bad decisions in almost every part of my life, be it job switch, be it dating. Recently switch from Rippling to G for better wlb but as expected, got a downlevelled offer. Due to covid didnt think much and accepted the offer. Now every other person that I know from my univ, colleague is making 2-3X. TC is just one part, I could not even go out to enjoy.
I'm still in my 20s but phrases like It can only go up from here feel too filmy.
I know most of you would think .. dude you're in Google. Enjoy. But it doesn't work like that. FWIW there's nothing special. There was much more recognition, ownership, learning in my prev org.
Cant switch because wherever I'm applying, either the position gets filled or ky resume is getting rejected. It feels like everything is falling apart. Not sure if its my fate or my bad decisions.
I thought time would heal things but it only keeps getting worse.

You could probably substitute "Blind" for "comparison". I don't know if I've ever seen so many unhappy top 5-10% income people in one place.

compare your salary not with others that are making more, but to everyone you talk to outisde of work: gym employee, cashier, fast food worker. Almost litterrally anyone. You're outearning them 4-8X.

Shifted from marketing design into UX with some courses, self learning, freelance work, and a lot of persistence. Still have a lot of room to grow but excited with the direction things are heading. Happy to chat details if you want to DM.
