Yes, I get that “China bans X Y Z” or whatever, but we shouldn’t aim to be on the level of China. There is no “national security threat” from teens dancing on a social media app. Sure there may have been a few incidents of service men or whatever revealing base locations or information because they posted a video of them doing the Barbie dog dancing trend while guarding a secret nuclear base, but, I’d argue that’s a problem of security protocol, it’s not TikTok’s fault. It could’ve just as easily been Instagram/Facebook, and it would’ve been crawled by a Chinese/Russian bot just the same. What is the honest justification for banning TikTok? Saying that the CCP boogeyman is harvesting data about American citizens is just not good enough for me.
Says the CCP bot…
Dude everyone I know loves TikTok
Sure everyone i know in CCP loves Tiktok also
The government is just a giant sinophobe
It’s about reach and influence. And that threatens “security”.
The only reason to ban TikTok is that it eats American companies lunches. I have no opinion on it but we should be honest about the reasoning.
The amount of user data CCP access to and the reach with algo can allow them to directly influence the US population.
@chaos As opposed to … who? YouTube radicalizing people? Facebook turning your parents into raging racists who are scared of their neighbors? Twitter putting everyone into a political bubble? There’s bad influence everywhere, the problem the US govt has it that it’s China.
Lol ccp is on blind
>> China ban X Y Z Google, Amazon quit China... China didn't ban them. It's false narrative being spread.
Not exactly. It’s a bit of both. China censored google search (fundamentally a “ban” of content), so google pulled out. Other google services are straight up banned in China (maps, gmail)
There are rules that don’t allow them to do business and their intellectual rights are not protected, essentially making them unprofitable there. Imagine you are writing code and your over enthusiastic teammates are allowed to spy, copy your fix and submit before you, and take all the credits. I would get the fuck out of that workplace
boogeyman? it’s real it’s a threat to american hegemony. clinton opened the floodgates and now we’re addicted to china. doesn’t mean we fuel the addiction
Did you forget about Henry Kissinger and Nixon?
clinton put china in WTO
Tik tok is not just teens dancing sir, Teens and older people watch it for a wide variety of reasons DIY hacks, beauty hacks, life hacks, political opinion, it’s the new YouTube where videos are less than a minute but provide entertainment/info If people spend at least at one hour in it everyday, your mindset and thought process changes. Some Muslim lady was trying to advocate for uyghur Muslims and was blocked on the platform. This wouldn’t happen on “western social media” platforms It has the power to influence people’s opinion and in a democratic society that’s very powerful (people are dumb)
This!
Its insane to me how people still think tik tok is an app for people dancing when theres tons of trends that go around daily that arent just dancing. Literally last week "Flashing behind the door trend" was trending and women flashed in the background or behind a door. One lady even carried her laundry basket with just her breasts and no shirt on. It was up for 3 days. That is my reasoning against it. Not to mention the fact every little kid wants to be an influencer now
TikTok is a big security risk and is a CCP propaganda channel that can influence billions of people. It needs to be banned
Yes dude girls dancing in bikinis is a matter of national security
The “challenges” that convince kids to literally murder each other are though.
Spying on journalists?
Disingenuous characterization of the facts
Oh my mistake; how would you characterize employees using the app to track the location of journalists?
