Will be moving with my wife and baby, mid 30s, should I even consider moving? I don’t see many posts from 200k tc people, wondering if they just move out of Bay Area.

Edit: it’s total income as spouse won’t be able to work for 3-4 years, I am fine with couple of hours of travel if that helps

  • What’s your combined income?

    • It is do-able in the short term, so if you think this will change your career trajectory, go for it.

But there are a lot of remote positions out there, so it’s not the end-all-be-all.

Thanks for your comments, very helpful! Maybe I will try it for short term and move out quickly if it doesn’t work out.

Keep in mind that blind in generally is very narrow minded and skews to people who penny pinch at 350k tc. What’s the combined?

Dont listen to the "below poverty line entitlement". 200k in the bay will net you an average life.

Housing is the single biggest thing to think about. Look at 800k apartments in all the bay and figure if you d be ok with living in them.

Thanks! Yeah I was thinking of buying apartments in that range for long term, but not immediately, maybe after 1-2 years if I plan to stay

Yup yup im also speaking for long term. Just gauge what your comfort level is. If you want to live on a 4bedroom sfr then you would feel poor here, but if you come from a more urban area and are ok with living in a 2bedroom apartment you ll have a normal life.
