I got fired at FB in 2013 and got a job at Google immediatelly. I was E4 at FB then offered L4 and google, promoted to L5, then going to be promoted to L6 this cycle (delayed promo because of no perf) which is a huge deal at Google. I was in infra at FB and got fired because of having an adverse relationship with my manager who is no longer at FB. I had stellar peer reviews and promoted E3 to E4 within 2 cycles. Long story short, I get calls from FB recruiters now and then. As I remind them about my situation at FB, they go radio silent. No replies to emails etc. However consistently I’m being ping once a year at least. What is the policy for hiring fired SWEs back? Can a recruiter answer? If there is a no-hire policy, why do we get contacted? Is there a bug in the system? The reason I’m looking for a change is comp. Now I’m making 360k in Search and having promoted to L6 won’t change much. I’m hearing FB giving good deals for Googlers, wanted to try once more as I can always go back to Google #hiring #firing #fb

Pls shed light on the relationship
Well, I had a project skipped deadline due to unexpected complexity then blame game started. I was thinking FB is such open and connected place, so I can speak up my mind openly by talking peer managers and directors etc. I made some noise and got canned without given a PIP. So hard learned lesson, managers are powerful at FB, don’t talk bad about your manager. Firing is easy as fuck.
How does it compare here?
Next time don’t volunteer info about getting fired and see how much farther in the process you get. Clearly there isn’t a red flag on the candidate sourcing side of things (since you keep getting pinged) so don’t make it a thing until they do.
Yes makes sense actually. OP may be wondering if its worth their time to put in the time and effort only to get rejected later in the process because of a no rehire policy. But either ways OP would be prepping for Facebook and chances are that they could move to other companies if they wanted to (they said they needed a comp bump)
Makes sense. Next time I won’t ask. There may be a case where sourcers and recruiters see less information than hiring commitees. Google hiring commitee sees your previous perf and interview scores for example.
Move forward. You were fired and are now unemployable there. Not worth focusing on that.. Most recruiters simply want butts in seats. You screwed up and you can't go back.
Well stated. Been recruiting many years and you are on a no-hire list most likely
Are you guys just guessing? This is why I don’t volunteer any info to recruiters, with your resume you should get an interview quickly. Don’t lie, but you don’t have to volunteer anything.
No point coming back. You might be fired again. Google is retirement compared to FB rat race :-). If you really want to come back, make sure you leave in good terms so you can boomerang back to G
I’m very well aware. I just need to 2x my comp, targeting 700k package and survive as much as I can. Maybe I can switch to management in FB and stop coding all together.
Cool. I am considering going back to G. I left G in 2017. I am E6 here (left as L5 at G)
Just move on. Facebook is a shameful company. I don’t understand who wants to work for a company like Facebook. Literally zero positive impact on the life of people, only negative.
Money 🙄
98% of the revenue of FB is advertising. Is it the same for Google? What happen if everybody is stopping to use FB? did they diversify?
1) Threaten to sue them for discrimination 2) Get a guaranteed offer out of fear 3) Do not quit Google 4) Join FB and quit immediately without returning the sign-on bonus 5) Teach them a lesson!
You don’t have to return the bonus?
Not in my magical world of justice
I also want to work for FB 🙂
Get a job at google first
Get fired from Facebook before getting that job at Google.
Did your comp go down over time at google? Why wouldn’t L6 be a huge bump ?
Probably because it takes four years for the pipeline
No, L6 wouldn’t be a huge bump. I’m at 360k and I have a bunch of grants expiring at eoy,so L6, at best, would keep me at this level. When I joined as L4 in 2014, I got 160k base and 600k RSUs. My TC was down hill after initial grant expired despite I got promoted to L5. Google offers good culture, benefits, work life balance but your TC depreciates over time. Goog stock is not moving up, so not helping to pare the losses.
Wow, so 8 years from new grad to l6, that’s very impressive
He didn’t say he was a new grad at FB. He’s been at G for that long
Good point on how he joined fb(I’m curious now), but 7 years from 4 to 6 at g is also pretty impressive
I heard there is a 5 year no rehire policy.
This was Dec 2013, so more than 5 years.
Asking to get sued with a policy like that.
