I have 5 onsites coming up and I am kinda nervous

Jan 6 37 Comments

I don't want to stay at Amazon. I don't like it here anymore. The future projects that are lined up for this year look scary af and I don't feel like I'm learning as much anymore. I did a lot for this org and I still feel undervalued. It's insane that I got Top Tier ratings, but then got dev listed 6 months down because some new hire talked shit about me.

I pulled off a crazy stunt where I bought myself a lot of time (2 months) but the work was just like 2 weeks worth of work by hacking the codebase a little. I prepared with over 200 LC and read up on Grokking the system design.

I have onsites with Snap, Uber, FB, DoorDash, Lyft..and possibly Airbnb. My fear is getting 0 offers and wasting my life away at Amazon.

Is there anything I need to know? Any advice from Blinders?

Panicking will not help, just focus on practicing leetcode, reading book, hitting the gym, etc; keep yourself busy. Action cures fear!

I transferred out of A9 about year ago. A9 is a shithole now. It used to be good when it was actually A9. Now it's all part of Amazon. I hear from my contacts that the culture changed drastically.

Good luck. You will eventually change your mind and attempt to leave as well.

The motto of Amazon is that all good teams eventually turn to shit. You can survive by moving out constantly by recognizing the red flags early on.

@pizza how many yoe? I thought it was easier to get interviews once you have industry experience. Is it really that bad?

5 Onsite interviews is impressive. Stay strong and do your best. There is life even if you don’t end up with an offer. Enjoy it and welcome things the way they are!

    Good luck OP!

After a few interviews, they’ll just come naturally to you.
On that note; I suggest interviewing with some companies you’re not as interested in first to get warmed up.
Interviewing is like riding a bicycle. You can practice all you want, but until you ride in a park all alone for the first time - you will not be confident. I suggest your ride in the park be a company that you do not care about as much

Yes, I have practiced with about 6 companies already. I actually got 3 offers already but they were not so good. Couldn't match my current TC. 1 was from a unicorn too.

Unfortunately I got rejected from a company I really wanted even after a stellar onsite performance due to some headcount issue. But lesson learned I guess.

But the ones now are the real deal. So I hope I perform my best.

No, I am already relatively more respected than the other engineers...and also I am coming off of the dev list. I have a lot of domain knowledge and I've heavily contributed in the infra of our org.

It doesn't make sense to move. And yet I still hate working at Amazon.I just feel like the engineers here are weak so I can't learn from them, and the business is a bit too ruthless.
