I regret not reneging

Back in college I had an offer from Citi (as a developer) that I took as a safety position. I was in the interview loop with a bunch of tech companies when my friends got me into not reneging. I was told it was bad for my career so I shouldn't do it. After months of this I decided to stop my interviews and took my Citi offer. It's been about 5 months now and I still maintain this was the wrong move. How do I move past this regret? I'm looking to jump to an actual tech company within a year, but I really don't like that I started my post college career with a non-tech focused company. TC: 85k YOE: <1

LC and interview. You can leave whenever you want.

You are just starting out. You will face bigger challenges as you grow in your career and realize that regretting anything is a waste of time and energy. Focus on your job switch and you will be fine!

85K? Where are you based?

Honestly these sort of situations is why I usually don't discuss life/career decisions with friends, unless I have specific questions about a company that they know the answer to. Most of the time they are projecting or simply talking out of their ass, since there's no real consequences for them.

When you joined citi, based on all the information you had that time, you made the best decision. What if that could have been the best move or maybe it still is? You could have felt the same way joining any other companies. It is okay to feel regret. But if you think logically, it is paradoxical. It is good that you realized it much sooner. As others have said, if you are truly motivated you know what to do to leave the current company. Life is all about experiment. You dont have control over what thought arises in your mind 3 sec later, how can you be sure what you will feel months later? It is all about your perception. Answer your worries/regrets by taking actions. Be present, be grateful. 😊
