I rejected my wework offer for fulltime midlevel software engineer in SF. It was my first offer when I started job searching this year. I got 150k base with $90k RSUs across 3 years. No sign bonus, no annual target bonus, no free foods. Location is Salesforce tower in Downtown SF. I interviewed in January 2019 with 7 YOE. This is a lowball and underleveled offer that was easy to say no. The only positive perk is the onsite gym and spa under construction. I ended up accepting an offer from a small early stage startup that offered 2x more than wework's base salary and also with title of senior engineer. Also, the startup TC offer is an all-cash offer without any equity.
Is equity both liquid at Wework vs startup?
I updated original post to answer your question. WeWork switched to RSUs this year so it is still paper monopoly money of no real cash value.
Ah so you get taxed on the RSUs. Be careful
It looks like WeWork’s CEO was a partner of cannabis company in Israel. He is not a typical tech founder.
Cool story bro
How did you find a startup that pays $480k a year in cash? That sounds like a crazy burn rate for a small startup.
I fixed the error in my post. I was comparing $150k base from WeWork (where i assume equity is $0 at private conpany) vs. $300k all cash TC from small startup.
Wtf applications are there to build at wework? I still can’t believe this company is billed as a tech company when it’s just a real estate play. Unreal. I’ll be shorting that stock if it ever ipo’s. They’ll price it as a tech company with its multiple and it’ll fall like a rock.
Smart choice 👌 we low ball everyone 😒
Why did u accept the offer?
It was a number of years ago when the promises were high and the strike price was low
This was for L4 Software Engineer position?
What is this gym you speak of in the SF tower? I work in the tower and don’t know what you’re talking about...(srs)
No target bonus is a big fuck you to an employee’s face. Fuck that. Plus the company is shit anyway. Greedy CEO.
