This was shockingly great! I've worked at G, Amazon and some smaller ones. My wife has worked at MS and Fb. We've been in this industry for ~7 years and in total we've seen 5 African Americans (none of them being engineer)... until I moved to Apple. I see several ones and all of the ones I've met were swe. Really top tier SWEs. This is great! I don't know what Apple does differently (despite all the noise G,Fb,... make about diversity), but it's really amazing.
I work with few black guys. Most of them are actually from outside of US, but black as it gets. And very good engineers too.
Which org? I only saw one who was a PM.
In FB’s latest diversity report, African American employee account for 3.8% in all roles, 8.2% in biz&sales, 1.5% in eng and 3.1% in senior leadership.
In the meantime, African Americans are most engaged with FB by quite a few metrics.
You know this doesn't count!
OP sounds overtly racist. Why wouldn't black people be working at TimApple? Why wouldn't black people be working anywhere they want to? Being shocked a certain race works in a certain profession reeks of white privilege.
Calm down Karen, not everything is racist. Although I do agree that this whole comment is idiotic. OP is probably as obsessed with racism as you hence his obsessive quality of counting black engineers.
I'm saying I'm happy. How's this racism?! AA can do whatever they want and the their skin color shouldn't prevent them.
Following as an african descent..🍿
I am black and an engineer at Apple. Thanks for noticing!
I’ve seen quite a few African American engineers (yes engineers) at MSFT. Never worked with one though.
I have worked with couple of black guys and all of them top notch. Great technical knowledge and absolutely humble.
Humble is what I vividly noticed too.
WTF, you racist! You make it sound like African Americans are like aliens 👽. They are just normal like us.
No they're not aliens. They're just like us, but they've been discriminated against for centuries and so we don't see them often in tech. That's why I'm happy to see them now.
We don't have - they don't look like me bias
pretty rad
