My coworker has been having irregular mood swings, extreme temper and anger issues and is heavily underperforming.

I realized that he was facing financial issues despite his income and for the past months working under quarantine he has been slacking of multiple projects.

I did a teams meeting with him and his appearance was a dead giveaway that he was on drugs he had Bloodshot eyes, poor skin tone, and appearing tired or run down and coughing heavily. I realized that for 50% of the time during meetings he is not focused.

I was recently assigned a project with this guy and Iโ€™m unsure how to work him given is health/mental problems

Should I let me my manager know?

I asked if he was feeling sick with covid and he said that heโ€™s not feeling sick at all.

I even offered to help him with referring him to a clinic for covid testing and he straight up refused

    • Some people donโ€™t want people to know anything about their personal life. He could have cancer or someone in his family could have went through something bad. Certainly if there is performance issues long-standing you can chat with your manager. Remember no matter what there is no such this as staying anonymous. They will find out if you complain.

  • You shouldnโ€™t be speculating on the cause of the issues, but the effects. If you want to complain, complain about the underperformance.

Itโ€™s not your place to go around telling everyone you think heโ€™s doing drugs.

  • Hmm, so you have never seen him do a drug or any evidence outside of symptoms that align with a laundry list of possibilities including just being tired/over worked. Your focus should be on if he is delivering what you need to succeed on the project. If he doesnt you could bring that to manager, but randomly accusing somebody of โ€˜being on drugsโ€™ makes you look desperate and on tilt...maybe even on drugs...
