I think it is really screwed up that we are to scared to publicly speak our minds or live our lives over employment concerns! It is more about my being unemployable at any Multinational or Big Consulting firm! The minute they look at my profile my resume goes into the trash bin! I don't think most people understand the gravity of what is going on? Under the guise of being concerned about alienating co-workers and potential clients, a systematic approach is being taken to make sure we are unable to communicate, except in the shadows! If Companies are concerned about employees discussing taboo topics with coworkers and clients while on the clock, all they need to do is create a policy on the subject! You break the rules and you are fired! Problem solved! This keen interest the big companies are taking in our private lives is dystopian! Am I wrong or Right?
By "speaking our minds" did you mean the ability to direct your hateful philosophy at minorites and women?
Yes! It does! If a person is offended with what you think and do in your private life. They have one choice! Not to take a further interest in what they do outside of a professional environment. At work we are all a captive audience. That is why there are so many legal protections in the work place. Sexually harass or discriminate and usually the employee is gone.
TC?
Total compensation
I would just keep my pedophilia tendencies to myself if I were you, or at least off of the company mailing lists.
Lol! Publicly admitting to that sort of thing might be a problem because it is illegal!
What a fragile ego. You'll be okay.
Who me?
Yes. The workplace is not a playground or public forum. It is not about you or what you personally or politically think. It's a privately-owned place to earn a paycheck. Leave your baggage at home or start your own company with your own policies. It's a free market. You are not oppressed.
Funny how this is only a concern to some people when it comes to paranoia about being unable to openly mock or disrespect their coworkers on social media. Meanwhile, anyone who had to deal with racial or sexual harassment at work has all the non disclosure agreements and hr and legal teams watching them. But ut-oh, you are afraid to post a bigoted meme🤭 Shit, your personal life? It’s not like low wage workers get drug tested and have to hide their tattoos or, if they’re black, get conservative haircuts so employers don’t assume they are “thugs”. If you are concerned that our employers have too much power over us (a very legit concern!) then, idk, why not try and help build a union... then you might also find out what it’s actually like to face real repression and threats of blacklisting in the workplace. Who knows it might force you to develop basic empathy and solidarity with the other employees you work with.
Bravo! Rather than crying about it! Do something! Point taken!
The goal is to spend as few years as possible working for other people. You need to find a way to translate that capital earned via labor into businesses that you are own. Good luck
Good advice! First get your own house in order!
Cowards
It’s always been like this. The only difference is that now it is infinitely easier to broadcast your speech to the entire planet and it’s infinitely easier for others to see what you wrote in the past. Back in the days before the internets, the only people who would take out rants in the newspaper were the crazy people. Now everyone does it because it’s free. Turns out we’re all crazy but it’s easier to call the people who pay money to do it, the crazy ones. If you don’t want people to think you’re crazy, just don’t post shit online, especially as something that can relate back to you.
Not clear what you’re talking about. Can you elaborate on what’s being banned or threatened over?
The HR department at most public companies review a prospective candidates online profile before moving forward in the process. Anyone that seems political in anyway, is automatically excluded from be a prospective employee. It goes well beyond just looking at your Facebook profile or googling your name. They pay good money for this information.
I think you have a point. I knew a police officer discriminated against over his outspoken views. Literally was horribly bullied. Unless you can prove it though, doesn’t matter what HR did or does. Delete your social profiles. Politics are extremely volatile now.
