When I got my job, I was estatic. In fact, I love what I do and consider my current job fun. I do the same stuff at home on the weekend as a hobby lol. But I'm noticing many similar positions at Google, Facebook, etc... Pay about 30k/yr more. I've have worked at both FB & Google for different roles and don't like how they put your role in a box. You cannot do anything else! At Logitech, I'm in charge! I do what I decide, and I get shit done! People notice I shine in other areas that have nothing to do with my current role, and I get to be in on that too! So I'd really prefer to just stay here. My role is so spread out it'd prob be a hassle to replace me too. What can I do to just get more money here? Or is jumping ship the way to go for things like this?
You get shit done, you said. Asking for a raise is a big shit you need to get done
Jump to another company and then return with more money
You have to compromise something.
Or... you could just ask for a raise / level change in the next pert cycle?
I think you need to accept that FB and G just pay more than a lot of other places, Logitech included. At that point it's your call on whether it's worth loving your job or wanting more $$$.
Get an offer from fb/google and wag it in front of your manager. If you are a high performer and important to the company, manager(+hr) will try to match the offer to retain you.
Similar situation here. Same reason I don't crave companies like Google & FB. If you can get an offer (with a bump) elsewhere, that would be a good basis to make the case of a salary increase. Use it to justify your market worth. Then you can also decide to leave or not.
Good idea
Liking your job so much is hurting your negotiating position. You’re not going to get a pay bump unless they actually think you might leave AND they think the pay bump will actually retain you.
