IT jobs with a recent felony. Ideas?
I've been working as an IT professional for about 12 years. But I made a mistake that is completely not job related, and now have a felony criminal record. I got an amazing job straight after release from a short prison sentence, worked there for a month before they decided to do a background check, and immediately fired me after seeing my record. I just got a new job where HR agreed that my record is not related to work, but it is entry-level IT work and I took a huge hit to my income. It's almost humiliating to be at the bottom of the food chain again after working in the industry for so long, and I really can't live in Los Angeles on this pay. Does anybody have any advice or ideas on what to do, or where to look, to find decent work/income in IT while I have a fresh felony record?
I know someone who was in this situation a few years ago. Got a job in a cloud data center - had to move to nowhere, but got a decent paycheck, and they were ok with the record, as long as he was honest about it. Might also be because his felony was for cannabis, and the job was in Oregon .

What was the sex offense? Solicitation? You went to prison for that??
Does working for a consulting company for the time being work ? I am curious what’s the felony record about ?
I'd be happy doing anything that is even somewhat related to information technology, because that is what I'm experienced in. My record involves a "non-serious, non-violent" sex offence, but there is such a dramatic stigma on sex charges that I'm having a very hard time getting work.
