Currently work in embedded C++ for 1 year and looking to make a switch to FE. I feel pretty confident in my front end abilities, but my resume is just 1 company with all low level tech. I need some project ideas to spruce up my resume with FE technologies. Not sure if portfolio site and to-do list make the cut anymore. Any ideas?

freecodecamp.com should be enough unless you’re targeting for an FEE role

In that case, if you do a quick search on google, you get a number of sites with great info. Freecodecamp will make you comfortable in setting up the project & understanding how html, css, JS work together and then any frameworks you choose.
I’d then start with the following projects
      - personal website
      - simple apps (tic tac toe, notes, flash cards and similar apps)
      - then some apps with api dependencies (weather app, calendar, chat bot, photos app etc)
      - complex apps - social media, video streaming etc with one of the popular frameworks (react is fairly easy to learn.

After the foundations, Learn as you build. Be as thorough as possible with JS. (Mdn, JavaScript.info, bfe.dev etc etc)

  • May I ask why you are switching from embedded to FE when semiconductor industry is at its peak ?

    • Because of scaling, it’s much easier to generate profits as SWE but that trend is changing with Meta, Apple, Google etc paying the same scale as SWE

Eager to try something new. I want to dip my toes in multiple technologies/companies, then will likely choose to settle in one domain

Moving to backend would be easier as you must be familiar with Java. Also salaries are usually more for backend Devs.
