TL;DR - I'm blind in my right eye, but not really. --- I'm in Seoul, and depending on you or your spouse's insurance, you get an annual free health check (of varying degree). I get to the part where they check your eyes and the woman tells me to cover one eye up. For some reason (I guess just to be sure I don't "cheat"), as I cover my right eye to test my left, I squint as well. If you think about this, there's absolutely no reason to do this. There is a hand covering my right eye, I can't see shit in front of me out of my right eye. So I'm squinting for maybe 30 seconds, pretty hard. Then she says alright, now switch eyes. I take my hand off and stop squinting, and open my right eye, and all I see is a fog as if I just woke up. It doesn't clear, so I ask for a second to clear it. After about 20 seconds it still isn't clearing because I'm profusely rubbing it and making it worse. Long story short, I miss all the tests on my right eye, and get technically recorded as being blind in my right eye. I asked for a re-do and they wouldn't grant it. I explained what happened, they wouldn't change it. My vision came back to normal about 10 seconds after the test. I get my results back a few weeks later, and vision in my right eye is recorded on my medical record as 20/200 (equivalent; KR uses different system). There's always next year.
Am I, like, your cousin or something? I literally have the situation you describe. I really am blind in one eye (and I too live in Asia). I was happy to move here because it's possible for people who can't drive a car to still live normal lives, unlike in the US where, no matter what race you are, you're a second class human being. In Japan we use the decimal system (so 1.0 is perfect vision); is that what you use in Korea?
Yeah, same system.
