Image Anxiety ahead of FB Onsite

I'm increasingly worried that I'm going to be docked points due to my appearance. I dress professionally and presentably, but I'm also trans. I know Facebook has a great culture towards diversity and inclusion, but my role is a little more third-party client facing. I just don't want to miss out on an opportunity because of how i present gender-wise with make-up and heels. This is most likely dumb anxiety but I still feel like it's a weight looming over me.

Think this way. What you value in your colleagues is their ability to solve a challenge that your team needs to. Your future team also needs that in their future colleague. And you are going to do that by demonstrating your process of how you solve a particular problem. Think of this more of a day to solve problems and if you don’t think about the outcome that will take care of the self limiting beliefs. Wish you best of success

You should read the book “subtle art of not giving a fuck”. Main point is most things that cause us anxiety in a given moment, isn’t the thing we really care most about in that moment.

be who you are. facebook values authenticity. you’ll have problems if you try to act like someone you aren’t.

Fb is super supportive of trans rights and being as inclusive as possible. You’ll be fine!

Not trans, but know that as a woman (trans or cis) excessive make up n high heels tends to give people a certain impression. Additionally the tech stereotype is a geeky looking guy, so when you have neither of those attributes you stand out, which can be daunting - what you are feeling is natural. I usually keep my look quite reserved n minimal for interviews so that people (myself included) don’t get distracted by my appearance. Of course do not hide the fact that you are a woman. Just remember we are not defined by make up n heels. Appearance shouldnt be important so try not to focus on it. Good luck!
