Even in the current enviornment, Amazon is still hiring including me for multiple tech roles in data science, business intelligence, SDE, product management etc. In the past, I have always looked for and hired the best talent who will be a fit for the role. But, in the current immigration mess such as frequent RFE’s to prove speciality occupation or qualifications to job duties, i have become apprehensive to hire anyone with sponsorship needs. i have responded to multiple H1B RFE’s recently as a hiring manager which requires a lot of effort and dont know what the outcome will be. It is like playing russian roulette. i understand the pain and hardship that folks go through in finding a job and company willing to sponsor visa. i have been on H1B for 12+ years with no end in sight. All i can say is keep faith, keep trying and things will turn for better.
Yep the struggle is real!!
The struggle is real and I am considering moving back to india can't live with uncertainty..
JCP atleast is very certain
See you know the struggle and if you as a HM not willing to accept or give a green for h1 hire, it’s bad. Do you know how hard is it to to get a job these days? No matter how smart you are, people have to juggle with their ft role and prepare for interviews (honestly I don’t know why we all should prep if you are so much experienced) . I request you to support these candidates, well I m not on H1 but I do have colleagues who go thru this hardships. Please be responsible and understanding to the community. Giving back matters my friend. I also agree immigration is a mess, but till they fix we gotta support each other
Asian lives matter!
I know the struggle as I have gone through the recession myself. However, the visa approval process was not arbitrary like it has become now. Ridiculous reasons to deny applications, asking for random documents, no realistic timeline for processing the applications is all contributing to this dilemma. Am I willing to wait 6-9 months for a candidate to join and start working on projects ( no premium processing now) or hire someone who can join within a month?
You shouldn’t think about h1b or rfe for hiring best talent. Job description and duties should be defined well considering what USCIS is looking for. Most of the cases get RFE because someone didn’t define job descriptions properly. Someone on h1b looking for job change in this scenario must be really in need of that job 🙄
One of my report’s visa was rejected saying the job is not a specialty occupation and doesn’t need bachelors degree which is ridiculous as why would Amazon pay that person $300K per year for a non-specialty job. The decision on visa application has become so arbitrary that the outcome is not known. One employee has one application rejected and the same application was approved the second time.
I have seen such cases, and in 90% of the cases rfe comes because job description was not clearly defined and didn’t use phrases which can portray the job as complex and requires bachelors degree. If job description is defined well and individual has bachelors degree in computer science, in 90% cases it gets approved. Anyhow we should give opportunity irrespective of h1b approval percentage.
Why do foreign workers keep treating H1B as immigration? Everybody calls them foreign workers but they call themselves no less than immigrants. One is not an immigrant until they have obtained a permanent resident status. Which may or may not happen depending on many circumstances.
H1B is a dual intention visa, that's why.
The normal English language meaning of "immigrant" is someone who has moved to another country with the intent of settling there permanently.
Does anyone know if you get picked on March 31 do you get H1b right away? Or do you still have to wait til October?
You can come to USA only after October
Would you recommend someone then to do MS in the US and then search for a job? Is it worth the whole hassle now?
Op why you dont have green card by now
With all the layoff happening it seems 80% are targeted for H1b. Does anyone thinks the same. My opinion is based on what i have seen on Blind
I would imagine it to be distributed proportionally but folks on H1B may be using all possible avenues for job hunt due to limited time of 60 days to find next job.
Very good post in blind after long time. Thanks brother!
