Did you guys read about this??? Apparently, food delivery services are paying literal pennies to their drivers/shoppers?? Is this even legal? Is this common in the industry? Does Uber Eats, Grubhub, Postmates, Caviar do this too? https://mashable.com/article/instacart-worker-wages-tipping/#8drut41i_uqf
That’s not what he said.
I hope that shoppers/delivery people leave instacart in droves. They don’t care about you.
Sounds like what’s happening is that tips are used to subsidize guaranteed earnings. So if two people work a similar number of hours but one gets a lot of tips and the other doesn’t, their end pay is similar. I think
False, I think there is no guaranteed earnings. Although at one point there used to be
I think the rest don't do that shit. But regardless it's luck of the draw, they can make anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars per hour.
Instacart does this. Amazon does this to their "Flex" PrimeNow drivers. Basically, 1-hour delivery has huge negative margin with no economy-of-scale, and abusive bullshit like this is one way employers limit the bleeding.
Don't use it then. Problem solved
From what I skimmed from the article they had a hard ceiling to what the drivers could make. Where as we have a guaranteed minimum rate that the drivers earn with no ceiling.
Tf kind of delivery service restricts how much drivers can make
Postmates don't do this shady shit.
Old news. You’re surprised?
They literally take money from tips given through the app. This issue has been buzzing around online forums for ages, people just stunned that they could do this to drivers - it's awesome to see they were finally called out on it.
Tech journalists had a big backlog of shitting to do on Uber and then Facebook, so they just got around to writing about this.
Postmates doesn’t use tips to calculate base pay. We don’t even ask the customer to include tip until the delivery is complete.
Can confirm I did a Postmates delivery once and got the full tip in addition to the base pay. I know it was extra because the customer gave a really big tip.
Yes they pay nothing. Tip your driver.
Better solution is to pay nothing as tip and let business pay living wage if they want people to work for them.
Again, that is stupid. You want to NOT pay a minimum wage worker barely making $40k when your own TCs are fatter than goddam hippos, go right ahead. Form a change.org campaign or take it up with dara if u really abhorr tipping but don’t rob the poor.
