Hi, I Recently got an offer from Intel Austin for a grade7 Position. Currently I am working for Qualcomm Sandiego. I have 5.5 Years Of Experience. Please help me in Providing suggestions if the Salary And Position I was offered is good. Current Salary at Qualcomm Base —119k Unvested Stocks — 80k Worth Annual Cash Bonus — 10-12k Position - Sr Engineer Salary Offered At Intel Base — 120k Stocks — 23k/3 Years Joining Bonus — 22 K Position — Grade 7 Appreciate Your Reply.
What is your profile? Is there a annual bonus? Overall this seems low for 5+ years of experience.
ASIC design engineer. Yes they mentioned that Intel provides quarterly bonus cash and annual bonus cash + shares
Is this final offer? If not, I would push for ~130k base. They are usually accommodating with RSUs. Intel gives 🥜🥜 mostly, but you could get ~50k over 3 yrs. Also, are you in Austin right now? Current offer isn't that appealing. But if you're moving from California, then maybe a different story..
Thanks for the reply. Yes it is the final offer. I am moving from California.
Oh, just saw the location now. As others said, it's not such a good offer to warrant SD to Austin move. Since, SD isn't that HCOL except for Ca taxes..
Okay sure. Unfortunately this is the final offer.
Yeah no real reason to move unless you just hate Qualcomm and want out. At best you'd break even but have to go through the hassle of relocating and ramping up at a new job
Op, first of all congrats on the offer! I would say if you really like the position take this offer! I know couple of folks who joined apple Austin with this base pay. Austin isn’t that expensive. With 120k base in Texas at-least you would have 12k to 15k more take home pay. Intel’s cash bonuses APB and QPB would be around 15k to 20k or more for g7. Plus you have a good joining bonus. Stocks are on lower side compared to Qualcomm. But I don’t agree with people here, comparing SD To Austin on terms of expenses. I stayed at both places. Austin is not expensive until you are planning to buy a house right now housing market is on fire. Plus, if you compare now Austin is thriving with hardware industry and has more hardware opportunities than SD. I would take the offer, get some experience for a couple of years and try in apple Austin. You can do the math. All the best!
Agree, Austin definitely has more hardware opportunities, and no state income tax .
whats the qpb and apb at Qualcomm ?
Get a better offer.
It's in the lower range of Grade 7. Not enough to make a move. If you really liked the work, try to negotiate sign-on bonus. But, don't expect much YoY salary increase as you might get in Qcom.
You have 80k unvested stocks why would u move ?
Not good. Keep looking.
Thanks for the feedback, is there a reason why please let me know
Base is too low and hardly any increase from your current comp. Not to mention that you need to ramp up in the new team. It is always risky to change a job. So better for a larger tc bump.
