Hi folks, Joined Intel in July. Im fresh out of university abs joined this team. Full of Asian folks in the team who are not cooperative or helping at all. I have to do all the code understanding myself and everyday is a s**t hole day as nobody answers anything. I don’t know who to ask help since I am WFH and if I’m stuck in code I thought the team will assign me a mentor for atleast 3-4 months to get the hang of it. But nobody gives a damn and we have to show results every week. Manager doesn’t know anything with code and I feel really stuck :( it’s frustrating. I got out of grad school with lot of dreams to innovate and to produce something meaningful/produce and is this where I can go. I m so low :( Is it good to switch immediately to a FAANG or any company if this continues. They filed H1B and now GC in process but manager hasn’t finished my forms yet. #tech
What’s your role at INTC?
AI engineer
It’s cool dude. Chill till your i140 is done. Don’t leave without it👍
I’m trying bro but I’m losing my mind. Everyday it’s the same shit. Nobody cares abt innovation or research. All they want is a excel sheet number and plots
Don’t forget to send in your TPS reports.
First mistake you made was coming to Intel to innovate.
Sad :( but that’s the company I got after PhD graduation. I didn’t get Google after campus in March :( but got this so jus felt like okay watever. But I feel bad now not going more interviews :(
Onboarding is hit and miss in WFH unfortunately. Have you talked to your manager about how you're not sure who to go to for help? Wish he know how to code, but you should still approach him on where to get help. Don't assume he knows you need it.
Yes bro I tried. They gave me some repo to code with and I have queries with that. When I approached the guy who wrote that, I was told not to disturb him. I was like WTF. How will I understand everything without a single code review. Jus by knowing how to run the code doesn’t mean I know the code in and out?
I asked my manager repeatedly and he never let me mail the developer:( I don’t understand what he is achieving here. He said u hav to understand the code yourself on your own.
What’s the worst thing can happen if I quit without getting GC done ??
You join another team/company that is just as bad and you become a slave to them as well.
Sounds even more Terrible. What’s the feasible solution then :( help me out plz!!
I hear you,top 10 graduate here Realize your self worth and bail out soon Good luck and I know you’re worth your trade
It’s only 6 months and so far I’ve seen only red flags and jumping now will it be bad thing on my career overall. I thought I can manage for 1 year Atleast but the trajectory going now is extremely bad!!
if you are writing code, why intel can be your dream? They are almost the worst for software engineers.
+1!!
I didn’t crack the last round in google campus and I had this offer so took it. But I didn’t hav much time either as my student visa was abt to expire. So I jus took this one !!
@OP - If I were you, I'd definitely look for better opportunities. On top of that, I have four pieces of advice: 1) Reach out to an immigration lawyer, NOT one employed by Intel. Find out: how long your i140/GC will take. 2) Realize that your manager has absolutely zero incentive to fill out GC/EB1 paperwork. You know that right? The longer you don't have GC, the longer that they can keep you where you are. 3) Consider applying on your own for EB1. A friend of mine did that, independent of their company, and got their EB1+GC in short order. But gather documentation is a bit of work. 4) Why not LC + Study-up now, and apply for jobs in Q1/Q2 next year? It will likely take up to 6-8 month, anyhow, to prep + interview + get offer(s) + start new job. On top of that, you'll feel better because you'll be taking active steps to improve your situation. Time is precious, esp. since you're a recent PhD grad. There is zero sense in staying multiple years in a shitty situation. You just have to do your homework, and research your next steps. Best of luck!
Thank you so much for all the tips. I will do my homework and keep working on LC and lookout for opportunities. Regarding GC I will look for applying on own or approach any legal firm here in Bay Area. You are right. I’m solving LC and start applying immediately 👍🏼
What’s their country?
