I heard that Netflix has a 4-months severance bonus for employees who get fired. Assuming I'm doing okay at Netflix and want to leave for a new company, does it make sense to make myself get fired for severance bonus rather than resign on peaceful terms? One downside I'm aware of is that doing that will burn some bridges and the employee will not get to return. But most employees don't return to their former companies anyway so it probably doesn't matter. Not that I'm thinking of doing that but am curious do people actually do that? What am I missing? Thanks. Good job!!!
Bay area is a small place and you may meet your manager in your company in the future.
I know ppl who did that. Noone legally can disclose the reason why you left. It’s a good idea of you’re not coming back, which is almost 100% true
If you do this you’re likely to burn bridges with your peers at Netflix, which can become a problem when they will work in other companies you’re applying in the future. I don’t know you, but this is a very immature question. You assume that there is easy money to be made.
This is a great point. Thanks
Don’t people get fired left and right at NFLX for not always being on their A game? If you get fired on your B game “on purpose”, I don’t see any problem with it... everyone knows NFLX is cutthroat.
It's funny you call it a "severance bonus" 😆
What if manager is nice and give you some slack? You'll end up quitting without your severance and also wasted bridges/plots. There's a big possibility of things going wrong here.
You're being cheap to the bone and brave enough to call it "strategy" this isn't even tactical
Well said. This would be an extremely short sighted move.
This is the textbook definition of ‘penny wise pound foolish’. Probably the dumbest and most immature post I’ve seen in a while. I’d hate to have you part of my team.
Same thought crossed my minds, who's this dumbass that I don't want to work with
It's a hypothetical question
If your reputation as a professional means so little to you, I suppose the sooner you leave the better.
If any potential future employers catch whiff of this they will surely not offer you a position. The tech industry is large...but people still know each other.
Very unlikely. I know people who have been fired for causes worse than PIP from large tech companies, and they are doing great!
How the fuck are they gonna 'catch whiff of this'?
